So, obviously you are left with the lone option of traveling with your bird. What do you do, then? Well, to reassure you, budgies can travel. In fact, they are said to be not as sensitive (as some other species of birds) and can travel in a car, without too much of a problem. 4 important things to consider, before you hit the road with your pet. a) Use a small traveling cage This is done to minimize any risk of injuries. In a bigger cage, your budgie can move around much more freely, and may easily hurt itself. It may also be difficult to catch it in a big cage, especially when it is hurt and its wounds need to be treated immediately. Traveling With Your Budgie Use a small travelling cage while you travel with your budgie. b) Avoid having swings, sharp objects, ladders, etc., in the cage while traveling Just a couple of fixed bars that ensures a safe foothold for your bird are enough. In case of a jerk or sudden breaking of the vehicle, these swinging objects can hurt your bird, and so can food dishes. Therefore, you had better remove the toys and food dishes while traveling. And don't forget to line the bottom of the cage with a paper towel or a newspaper. Do not use gravel or other litter, while traveling with your bird. The sand can get dispersed, and alarm your budgie. Still worse, it can get into the driver's eyes, and could cause an accident. So, no gravel/sand and use paper towels or newspaper… C) Safety belts for the cage too! Make sure you keep the cage in such a way that it can be fastened with a safety belt. And if the safety belt is not long enough, you could try using a cord to make the belt longer. It is always best to keep the cage on the seat, and not on Traveling With Your Budgie the floor. Sometimes, if your car is really old, it could leak toxic fumes harmful for your bird. |
